British Light Infantry Regiments
CommentsAfter all these years! Great to see the badge again, even if I did have to wear a K.S.L.I. badge in the end! From the Maltings in Shrewsbury, The Isle of Wight and into Europe. Can still march at the regimental pace, beat the South Staffs to church every Sunday. Best wishes to everyone, I hated my Z reserve in the D.C.L.I. Jack Garner. JAKBRAD@AOL.Com
CommentsI am interested in the names of men who worked for the Old Radnor Trading Company of Kington Herefordshire and who served in, and perhaps died in the Great War in the Herefordshire Regiment so that I can identify names on the company's war memorial. JB Sinclair, The Gore Quarry Manager
CommentsThis is a great site and it is wonderful to see it from Australia.
CommentsI've been researching my great uncle's service in 1/1st Herefords during WW1. He was KIA France 1918. Like to hear from anyone doing same or who can offer help and guidance.
CommentsJust a note to let people know that there are a group of us based in the midlands (GB) that recreate the 36th (later Herefordshire Regt) of Foote, the period 1745 - 1760. Any one interested can visit our site via the New France Old England site or contact B Cainan, 21 Soberton Avenue, Heath, Cardiff, CF14 3NJ
CommentsRe my message of 31.7.99 on my great uncle who was KIA with 1/1 Herefords in 1918, please note my new e-mail address -
CommentsI am interested in any information about the TA company at ROSS-on-WYE prior to WW2. My father joined the unit in 1938 as a Private, promoted to Sergeant, and commissioned in 1942. He served through the War with the 8th Army finishing with 56th Div in North Eastern Italy. Prior to his death in 1986 he was president of the FOD (Coleford) Branch of the British Legion
CommentsI held a National Service Commission in the Worcestershire Regt and served in Malaya (1952-53) Subsequently I served in the 7th (TA) Bn and attended five camps from memory. It was then that I met members of the HLI. I was born in Colwall, Herefordshire and spent my first twenty years living somewhere in the Three Counties. A small world made even smaller by the Internet
CommentsHi I've been looking for info on Henry Barber #3778 1st(?) Herefordshire 1914-1918. He is buried at Al Qantara Suez. d. Aug 1916.
CommentsI like this site a lot. I've been searching for records to do with my grand-father George Henry Curtis who was part of this regiment. I would like to have found out anything to do with him at all about during the war etc. He moved up here to Scotland later after the war and married.... If you could find anything to do with this man at all I would be very appreciative. Yours, Kyle Curtis aged 15, SCOTLAND.
CommentsI Hope that someone out there can help me. I am looking for information on the Herefordshire Regt as one of my relatives, served in the unit for a period.

CommentsDoes anyone know of an official or unofficial historian for the 1st Bn Hereford Regiment (1939-1945).Ineed information for my family history.
CommentsI am researching The Herefordshire Regiment - mainly during The First World War - I have a database in excess of 3,000 names of individuals who served, plus photographs, diaries, nominal roles etc. I offer assistance to any one who is interested and would be grateful to hear from anyone who has any details of Herefordshire Regiment soldiers or ephemera.
CommentsFabulous web-site! I am a collector of militaria to the Hereford Regiment. I have a double-card of a 1st Bn. guy taken in Egypt(?). I would be willing to trade it with any collector who has any double-cards. Cheers!!
CommentsPlease HELP with this research project: I am trying to research Pte. George Thomas Williams who served with the 1/1 Herefordshire Reg. All I really know is he was born at Glasbury Hay Herefordshire, and enlisted at Eardisley Castle. He died at home (England) on March 6, 1916. Did George Williams serve with his regiment at Gallipoli, and had he been invalided home to die? Or did he remain in England the whole time? All that remains of this poor chap is a Memorial Death Plaque in very poor condition, discovered in a box of trash outside a second hand store. I really want to give this mans memory the dignity it truly deserves, if you can supply any info it would be much appreciated. Regards David

CommentsSTOP PRESS: This site is run from CANADA by ONE MAN called Mike, whose interest is that his grandfather fought with the DCLI in the Boer War and WW I. Mike has done this site for US. We owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Mile has a high powered job, and 3 children he has to get through school and college. He cannot afford to do everything, either in terms of time or money. He has also had to PAY out of his own pocket to keep this site going for 5 years. Now the good news (hopefully): In my various capacities, I am trying to get this site up and running in the UK. I shall be contacting all LI Association Branches, asking for their support in doing this. If YOU do NOT belong to an LI Branch, then join one now. I need YOUR support if five years of really excellent work by a Canadian called Mike, who has never been in the Light Infantry but has done it for love and as a remembrance of his Grandfather, is not to go down the pan. Mike has agreed to try and keep the site open until I can take it over. If one day you find the site closed, keep looking regularly, because we might have to close it down in Canada before we can re-open it in UK. YOUR SUPPORT IS VITAL. I hope I can count on YOU, just like we have counted on Mike for five years.
