| Message : | I found your reference to Major-General Robert Hold Truell, my great-great uncle, who commanded the 53rd KSLI in the 1880s. Minor correction - his correct name was Robert HOLT Truell. He served in the Indian Mutiny, Fenian Campaign in Canada, Egyptian Campaign and Sudan Campaign, being mentioned in dispatches at the Relief of Lucknow and Sudan. We still have many of his papers: letters to his mother about the Indian Mutiny, newspaper articles about the Regiment etc. and would entertain any requests from serious researchers. We would be fascinated in knowing more about him and the regiment during his 30 years of service. |

His wife came from Bromyard and they moved to Blaina early 1900's (their first daughter born 1907). If anyone can advise where else to search I would be very grateful. |

It is also a known fact that the first football match of our club was against Shropshire Regiment which was stationed in Malta. Would be much obliged and honoured if any information regarding this connection, is held by any of your members be shared with us. Would be much willing to correspond on this subject. Regards Chris |
